Clogs or not? That is the question.

Posted in fashion, Inspiration, Paris by Leila Ligougne on March 30, 2010

I wrote this a while ago, and thought I was making a big deal out of nothing. I then decided to leave my thoughts on clogs on the sides, but really, clogs are totally making a come back.

I have started to read about clogs and designers have started to accessorize their collections with them. For one, Karl Lagerfeld did make a statement in it’s last spring collection with high heel clogs, and I am surprise to finally be warming up to the idea. I mean the show what last October, so it I feel like I should already have assimilated the newness, but it is taking me a while… and since, Top Shop has started to sell clogs and ASOS is claiming they are the answer to the gladiator sandal and puts them in their number 2 must have trends!

Anyway as an early sign of their reemergence, I have  seen with my own eyes an edgy DUMBO resident wearing them. The look was definitely on the green-organic-babacool side but to my surprise with a tech practical edge. The lady was wearing a pair of Patagonia polar socks, because let’s face it, clogs in winter are not super warm!

That was interesting to see the 2 paired together, the clogs with the polar socks I mean. I should have asked where she got her inspiration but I didn’t dare…

Plus, really,I am not there yet, even if in the 70s I already had my clog moment… In the 70s, my clogs were red and they were super cute!

Some clog inspirations anyone?

Corso Como

Posted in art, fashion, Inspiration, photography by Leila Ligougne on March 26, 2010

This is it, I go to Corso Como in Milan, one of my favorite store. What else could I ask for? The store is so inspiring, it has such a peaceful cafe with a beautiful garden, and all the details are gorgeous. But this time, there is a special Tim Walker exhibition and the Piece de resistance is this amazing skeleton prop used on a photo shoot! Actually, the photo shoot for the October 2009 Harper’s Bazaar: Tim Burton’s Tricks and Treats

Arrgggg! Spring was here, right here and it just went away… It is cold and rainy again. I wouldn’t mind a nice coffee like that one I had in Milan two weeks ago… That would help me wait for spring again…

Le Selby in Colette’s Window in Paris

Posted in art, fashion, Inspiration, Paris, photography, Window display by Leila Ligougne on March 22, 2010

If you have not heard of it yet, theselby.com is a very inspiring, interesting blog that presents you pictures of creative people’s homes and workplaces.
For the curious, it is great! You can really appreciate the strong styles and personalities of people through the way they decorate their place. It is also like looking at someone’s life, what people collect, what they do with all these things, the colors, the textures…
The man behind this is Todd Selby. Not only did he have a great idea, but he is a very talented photographer and illustrator.

Two weeks ago, during Paris’ fashion week, a window at Colette was dedicated to the man himself and it was set up like a bedroom where it seems that he was spending most of his time… Here are some pictures I took of him while passing by.

From March 30 to May 2nd Colette will host a Selby shop. you can see here what it will be like.

He also had the visit of Olivier Zham whose pictures of the purple diary were also exhibited in Colette.

Alice in Wonderland

Posted in art, fashion, Paris, Window display by Leila Ligougne on March 6, 2010

As you know, I have been waiting for quite a while for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland Movie, starring Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, and I have not been alone. It is amazing how everybody is inspired or is tapping in the commerciality of this event.

The department store Le Printemps in Paris has developed the theme in its own store, from a tea Salon to incredibly beautiful windows. Le Printemps has invited nine fashion designers to create an interpretation of Alice’s dress as well as the Mad Hatter’s costume. the hand-picked designers are Alexander McQueen, Maison Martin Margiela, Ann Demeulemeester, Chloé, Haider Ackermann, Manish Arora, Christopher Kane, Nicholas Kirkwood and Bernhard Willhelm,
