Vanessa Bruno Spring 2010 superfabulous lookbook

Posted in art, fashion, Film, Inspiration, Paris by Leila Ligougne on February 22, 2010

Vanessa Bruno and director Stephanie di Giusto have made a nice little movie in lieu of lookbook for spring 2010. And as I have a special fascination with Jane Birkin offsprings, the choice of actress Lou Doillon as the model makes everything even more enjoyable.

the clothes are beautiful, off course, delicate, pretty with feminine details in white, light colors and with a pop of fushia.

… And who are they? Ah, Ah! Just guess, because even I, don’t really believe it!

I didn’t post anything this week. I was too tired and didn’t really have the energy to write… McQueen and other things left my mind in a wandering state…

So by the end of the week, to put an end to the ordinary course of events, and to celebrate NY fashion week, I headed to Milk Studio… I didn’t quite know what to expect, and to my enchantment, the legendary Patti Smith took the stage. It was a short performance, but WOW, what a great one! Something wonderful and unusual. I had never seen her before so I was really excited and ended up first row, right in the middle in front of her! She has an incredible energy and it was memorable, for me anyway!

Than, as if that wasn’t enough, on Friday I attended Jane Birkin’s concert! AMAZING! She is totally nostalgic, and it was the last presentation of her tour. She sang a lot of old songs written for her by Serge Gainsbourg, as well as some from her latest album she wrote herself. she has a really special relationship with her public, really engaging and talking a lot between each songs to give a little history or anecdote to put it into context.

It was also very refreshing to see someone so politically engaged. You should visit her website and pay attention to a cause that is close to Jane’s heart: Birma and Aung San Suu Kyi. there are 2 petitions to sign to free Birma’s political prisoners.

Alexander Lee McQueen 1969-2010

Posted in Alexander McQueen, art, fashion by Leila Ligougne on February 13, 2010

McQueen’s incredible imagination coupled with a non equaled tailoring technique always gave us something to look forward. I will miss the surprises, every season, the stunning presentations, the boundaries, pushed, the viceral reactions to his genius… I am so sad…

really, really sad :’(

lets talk ACNE

Posted in fashion, Inspiration by Leila Ligougne on February 6, 2010

Let’s talk about ACNE for a minute and what seems to be so cool about the brand.

The designers are from Sweden, therefore have embedded in their personal wiring a certain sense of style and sobriety that makes one super cool. Because Scandinavian influence in design is always so tasteful, right? It is like their approach is very much like architecture, a play with proportions, but going to the essential, the practicality of the clothes. There is no fluff, no crazy fabrics, just beautifully basics in great neutrals for the most part. No bling. No artifice, no unnecessary embellishments. Just proportions that are right.
And at the end of the day, it is an attitude. To rock it, you need a girl who is confident because the lack of artifice will allow her personality to transpire even more.

well, that was all until the fall 2010 presentation!

The designer, Jonny Johansson, this time is inspired by what his 2 young boys keep watching: The Clone Wars. By the way, I totally relate to that…

I guess, there it still a lot of pieces that are just perfect, some draped pants, fur jackets, heavy zippers on soft pieces, utilitarian jumpsuits, a big beautiful sheep parka,  and a super cool motorcycle jacket… But the styling for the purpose of the presentation if a bit complicated this time with big ankle bracelets, and face painting to take us straight to a sci-fi world!

I love the great emerging talents coming out of New York City! Ohne Titel is one of them and the duo behind it is great! Interested with the evolution of their work, I have interviewed Flora Gill and Alexa Adams. Here is the final interview that you can read on models.com! It was very interesting and inspiring to do this…
